Covid-19: Country-specific measures on situation to be released. |
As COVID-19 cases rise in China and other nations, the Ghana
Health Service (GHS) will shortly publish the country-specific measures to control
the spread of the disease.
The GHS describes this scenario as risky in light of the fall and
continued low levels of COVID-19 cases in Ghana during the last three (3)
months.
The Ghana Health Service said in a news statement dated January 1,
2023 that the country's comparatively low vaccination rate presents a serious
danger to importation and a fresh wave of COVID-19 illness.
Therefore, the Service is making the necessary preparations to
make sure the situation does not spiral out of control.
“This situation calls for tightening and reviewing of existing
measures to avert further outbreaks. Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ministry of Health are critically
monitoring the situation in consultation with key stakeholders.
“We will
shortly come out with our country specific measures to address the current
threat of COVID-19, especially with respect to importation,” the
Director-General of GHS, Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye assured in the release.
The Service urged all Ghanaians to get the COVID-19 immunisation
if they haven't already.
“Those who have taken their first dose are to go for the second
dose and those who have taken their second dose are also entreated to go for
the booster. Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19 infection,” the GHS urged.
