| Marriage and Money: Why Stability Shapes Commitment? |
Most men will never think of marriage until they have become financially stable.
In fact, women will mostly not even be attracted to a man with no job or money.
If you go knock on the door of any family to
express your desire to marry their daughter, the first question that you will
most likely be asked is: What do you do for a living?
If a woman tells her dad or friends she is
about to marry, they will most likely want to know if the man already has his
own house.
Men who stay with their parents at the age of 30 to 40, are insulted.
Men who have no money and are in a relationship are just being used. The girl
is mostly with the man because she has not seen a better option.
By next year, I will be 40 years old. I have asked myself, assuming I am not a
priest, would I have gotten married by now? I probably won’t have because of
many economic reasons.
After school and service, no job. The man will then begin to hustle any menial
job. Then he begins thinking of how to Japa (travel abroad). If he succeeds, he
starts life from scratch in that country. Before he becomes financially stable,
he is between his early 40s and late 40s. That is when he may start thinking of
marriage.
So you see, the reason why many of you women are not seeing a suitor, has
nothing to do with an evil spirit or a spirit husband. The economy plays a big
role. The average cost of a simple traditional wedding is in millions. Even
Bride Price is no longer affordable.
Interestingly, it doesn’t stop men from having sex. In fact, I read a certain
research that says, poor people have more sex than the rich. When you are idle,
what do you expect? This is how many women become single mothers. And those who
won’t take the noble path of keeping the baby end up having an abortion.
When we talk about good governance, it is because we know that everything is
connected to everything. If the economy is booming now, and you have money in
your pocket, a lot of things will take their place. So many of your prayer
points will vanish.
