Why Do We Run Around?: The Roots of Human Needs. |
Our human needs are food, water, shelter, light
and love (sex). Very simple! Those basic human needs are what those that
existed before us searched for, this is what those that existed before them
searched for.
This is what those who will come after us will
equally be searching for. If you are critical and observant, you will see that
two things characterize us: the need to procreate or bring forth life and the
passion to sustain and protect this life.
If we are to put it in another way, we can
simply say that we are here to 'duplicate' ourselves and to ensure that our
'duplicate' does not die, at least before us.

If we are to say it in pidgin, it will be: we
dey this world to born our type and to make sure say them no kpai. Every system
in the world is built on these two foundations: Procreation and sustaining
creation. Be it engineering, medicine, law, or even religion.
We can write a whole book explaining just this.
Those two things that characterize us are the answers to the question of why we
need food, water, light, shelter and love.
To say it plainly, the basic needs of man are meant to help us procreate and to sustain that which we procreate. (Procreation does not only refer to biological procreation. This is why I also used the word "duplicate." Passing of language, culture, knowledge, morals is us trying to make those coming after us be like us.)
That is the cycle of life. All our running
around comes down to these basics until we die, then others will continue from
where we stop.
