2025 AFCONQ: Ghana lose to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium. |
Ghana's 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign got off to a
dismal start with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium
in Kumasi.
The Black Stars' unbeaten streak at the venue, which
dated back to 2000, was snapped in the most agonizing fashion - a 92nd-minute
goal by Angola's Milson.
The Ghanaian team struggled to create scoring
opportunities, with most of their shots coming from long range.
A rare moment of brilliance between Mohammed Kudus and
Antoine Semenyo on the left flank ultimately led to a weak shot by Kudus, which
was deflected for a corner kick.
The decisive moment came when Abdul Mumin's poor
clearance was pounced upon by Milson, who slotted the ball home deep inside the
penalty area. This late blow condemned Ghana to a disappointing defeat.
To make matters worse, Sudan's 1-0 win over Niger in
the other Group F match has added pressure on the Black Stars.
They must regroup and bounce back in their next
encounter against Niger on September 9 in Morocco.
The team's performance and the state of the pitch at
the Baba Yara Stadium have raised concerns that need to be addressed to get
Ghana's qualifying campaign back on track.
Tough result today, but we’ll regroup and come back stronger. Thanks for your support. 🙏🏾#BlackStars | #AFCON2025Q pic.twitter.com/Vy25LpvWqd
