About Kumasi Technical University (KSTU)

The Kumasi Technical University, previously known as Kumasi Polytechnic is o ne of the Ghanaian polytechnics converted to universities. It is situated in the centre of Kumasi, the capital of Ghana's Ashanti Region. Nana Osei Wusu Achiaw is the vice chancellor of the Kumasi Technical University; the first vice chancellor since it was turned into a university.

The institution, formerly known as Kumasi Technical Institute, was founded in 1954 but didn't begin formal teaching and learning until 1955, focusing mostly on artisan courses. On October 30, 1963, it changed its name to a polytechnic; in 2017, it became a university. The focus shifted to a few diploma programmes and technicians after that. A few professional-level courses were furthermore provided. Kumasi Polytechnic ceased to exist in its previous form (Kumasi Technical Institute) and transformed into a tertiary institution when the Polytechnic Law 1992, PNDC Law 321, was passed.
