NPP MPs saved the nation from a likely coup-Nyaho-Tamakloe. |
According to Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, Ghana's 4th Republic would
have been on the brink of being overthrown if the ruling NPP MPs hadn't pushed
for Ken Ofori-Atta to be removed from his position.
The Ghanaian statesman said that the unexpected effort to oust the finance minister from office, which was launched on Tuesday,
October 25, 2022 prevented the nation from experiencing an impending crisis.
The nation was taken aback when around 80 lawmakers from the ruling party, threatened the president with the condition that
they would not participate in any of the government’s activities until he fired
Ken Ofori-Atta.
“Those who made this intervention have saved the 4th Republic.
We were getting close to military intervention but the MPs actions yesterday
totally wiped it off and I think the country should learn from that as
well," he said on a segment of TV3's morning show.
It has been said that the President's close relative serving
as Finance Minister is to blame for the current precarious state of the
economy.
The cost of living in Ghana has increased significantly as a
result of high inflation and a falling value of the national currency. However,
President Nana Akufo-Addo has appealed with the members of parliament who are
part of his administration to grant the minister a few more weeks so that he
can successfully end the discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
to get $3 billion for Ghana's struggling economy.
According to Nyaho-Tamakloe, a respected member of the governing NPP, the MPs got the president's full attention and he may want to change their minds.
"Akufo-Addo, as I know, will definitely make attempts to change their minds, if they instead allow that, then they will be most hated people in this country or on the political landscape,” he added.
He lauded the protesting members of parliament for
respecting the principles of genuine democracy by going against the status
quo and refusing to keep mute about the minister's shortcomings.
