The leadership of a section of the majority of members of Parliament elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party have issued a call to President Akufo-Addo to fire Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his protégé Charles Adu-Boahen.

Speaking on behalf of the group of disappointed majority MPs at a news conference published by GhanaNews.hrforum.uk, Andy Appiah-Kubi, MP for Asante Akyem North, expressed his conviction that removing the two will aid in reestablishing economic order.

“We are members of the majority caucus of the Parliament of Ghana. My name is Andy Appiah Kubi. I am here as spokesperson of the majority group without more. We have had occasions to defend allegations of conflict of interest, lack of confidence, trust against leadership of our Finance Ministry.” The group said through the Asante Akyem North Lawmaker.

According to the members of the Majority group, they have attempted, but to no effect, to relay their worries over the duo's management of the economy, which has implications for both the party and its supporters.

“The recent development within our economy is of greater concern to majority of the members of our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern to the President through the Parliamentary leadership and leadership of the party without any response.”

According to the caucus, both Charles Adu-Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, and Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance, should be fired by President Akufo-Addo.

“We are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the President changes the finance minister and the Minister of state at the finance ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the Finance sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of our economy. The summary of our concerns is that, Kenneth Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen be removed from office,” Andy Appiah-Kubi said.

A great deal of pressure has been put on Ken Ofori-Atta to step down from his position, and President Akufo-Addo has been encouraged to fire him if he refuses to step down from his position.

As a result of the dismissal of Kwasi Kwarteng, who served as Ofori-Atta's equivalent in the United Kingdom, some Ghanaians have requested that the Ghanaian Minister do the same.

The pressure is now mounted by members of his own party who are serving in Parliament. This indicates that some of his colleagues may side with the opposition in order to vote against a proposed budget in the event that he puts one up for approval.
