Mubarikatu Isaaka |
The effort by Ghanaian artist Mubarikatu Isaaka to
break the record for the longest solo painting marathon has ended.
The 29-year-old, Akwatia, Eastern region native, started
a nine-day record attempt to complete the 100-hour Paint-a-thon.
Fameye, the rapper, and 'patupa' hitmaker Patapaa
delighted the people with some of their hit songs at a ceremony to mark the
completion of the 154 hours of painting.
In January of this year, Nigerian art student
Chancellor Ahaaghotu smashed a record that had stood for ten years. Artist
Barry, as she is well known, set out to break it.
The Ghanaian performer sang the national anthem to cap
off the attempt for a record.
According to Mubarikatu Isaaka, she was happy with her
performance and aimed to shatter the record for the longest solo painting
marathon.
The challenger is allowed a five-minute break for each
hour of continuous exercise, or a twenty-minute break if accumulated over four
hours, like with other marathon record-breaking attempts.
Mubarikatu said that she prolonged her time to make up
for any missed time, even though her initial goal was to complete 130 hours.
Her primary supporter, Twum Barima, a wealthy miner in
Akwatia, shocked her and the thronging audience by bringing in highlife singer
Patapaa and rapper Fameye, who concluded the proceedings with some of their
popular tunes.
