About University of Education, Winneba
(UEW)
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is a university that
can be found in Winneba, which is located in the Central Region of Ghana. In
1992, a government law (PNDC Law 322) and a collaboration with the University
of Cape Coast led to the establishment of the institution. Its primary
objective is to prepare future teachers for Ghana's educational system.
The University of Education in Winneba has been tasked with the
responsibility of teacher education as well as the production of professional
educators in order to spearhead a new national vision of education that will
refocus Ghana's efforts in the direction of the path leading to rapid economic and
social development. In Ghana's effort to develop academics whose knowledge is
completely responsive to the realities and necessities of modern Ghana, it is
anticipated that the University of Education, Winneba would play a prominent
role in the process.
The university is comprised of a total
of seven faculties, in addition to twenty-nine academic departments and
centres. In addition to this, there are 18 regional study centres for remote
education located across Ghana. The University of Education, Winneba, is a
university that spans many campuses and locations around the region. It is
comprised of six campuses, three of which are located in the Central Region of
Ghana in Winneba, one of which is located in Ajumako, and the other two
campuses are located in the Ashanti Region in Kumasi and Mampong, respectively.
UEW is a multi-campus, multi-site university with campuses and
learning centres in other parts of the country. The university's six faculties,
one Institute, and two centres of the University provide programmes in the
following subject areas: Science and Mathematics Education, Technology and
Business Education, Agriculture Education, Home Economics Education, Cultural
Studies, Creative Arts Education, Guidance and Counselling, and Educational
Administration and Leadership.
