President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. |
Contrary to claims made by some of his officials that,
Aisha Huang was deported, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that,
he is not sure about that.
He said this in an interview with Stone City Radio
in Ho on his tour of the Volta Region, which GhanaNews.hrforum.uk
monitored.
“I am not
still sure whether she was, in fact deported or whether she fled the country
the first time and has now come back or whatever. There still seems to be some uncertainty
about it.
“Whichever
way it is, she has
become a sort of nickname for all that
the galamsey represents and also unfortunately, for the involvement
of Chinese nationals in this illicit trade.”, he said.
However, Akufo-Addo assured the public of government's
commitment to fighting the galamsey menace.
lnformation Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, whose demeanour
abruptly altered in response to the president's statements, seemed to have been
taken aback.
Officials from the Ghana Immigration Service and many a government
spokesperson, have confirmed that Aisha Huang was deported from the
country.
