The MP for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has said that the NPP government going for IMF intervention will impact the party’s electoral fortunes as far as breaking the 8 is concerned. In his view, the NPP government’s decision to go to the IMF can be likened to handing over power to the NDC without a fight.
“You sitting here and you
are smiling; IMF? What are we going to say again? Somebody texted me, don’t say
anything about IMF. Me I shouldn’t say anything about IMF? I will say it! I
will say it! You know going into IMF is just like handing over power to the NDC
without a contest, straightway.”
According to him, the NPP previously
accused the NDC government for going to IMF as a result of economic mismanagement
and to him breaking the 8 was going to be difficult for the party.
“Because the noise we made
and I chew my own words back when I said NDC went to IMF because of mismanagement
of the economy. So, if NPP is going to IMF, what am I going to say? What am I going
to say? So breaking the eight, is going to be tough. You cannot use the face of
those who took us to IMF to break the eight. It wont work! My message to you is
simple! You cannot, read my lips and I am not scared of anybody in the party.
“I will tell you the gospel
truth; it is the gospel truth! Those who took you to IMF; those same face
cannot break the eight. A word to the wise is enough. I am very sad today when I
saw the publication that, we are going to IMF. You know that is what Mahama was
praying for; he has gotten his wish.”, he added.
Mr. Agyapong finally ended
his submission by asking the party to remain united and work hard if they were
to break the 8 in the 2024 election.
“It will not be easy; it
will take hard work and so we should brace ourselves that there is a task ahead
of us. Therefore, it is only unity that will help us sail through this breaking
the eight.”
