The South African Football Association (SAFA) has announced that it would lodge a formal protest with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a rematch of the final World Cup qualifying group game in Cape Coast versus Ghana.
Tebogo Motlanthe, the SAFA's chief executive officer, stated the match was marred by multiple violations following the play on Sunday.
“So, we as the association have decided that we will be writing to both CAF and FIFA first to investigate how the game had ended and secondly to also challenge some of these decisions.
“I think from our hearts is to say the match officials have decided the game which is not what is supposed to happen,” Motlanthe said.
He said that not only does the penalty make
them feel cheated, but there are numerous doubts about many of the referee's
calls, and that they would hire an expert to compile all of the information
needed to make a solid case before FIFA.
