Former Ashanti Regional minister, Samuel Sarpong, has revealed that prior to the 2024 general elections, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, offered President John Dramani Mahama a book containing the developmental agenda of the Ashanti region to guide him in his administration.
According to Sarpong, the manifesto was presented when
Mahama paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene during his campaign period.
Sarpong explained that Otumfuo had high hopes for
Mahama winning the elections, hence the book was given to him to prepare ahead
in terms of how he would develop the region.
He also added that Mahama would prioritize all
projects in the Ashanti region that the outgoing government under former
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could not complete.
Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV on January 7,
2024, he stated, “President Mahama has Asanteman in his heart. If you look at
how Ashantis voted for him, it means that he has to also reward us in all ways
that he can.
“But even before that, when he came to Kumasi to greet
Otumfuo, Otumfuo gave him a certain book which contains the vision of
Asanteman, like the manifesto of Ashanti. Because he believed in Mahama winning
the election, he gave him the book to guide him on how to develop the Ashanti
region.
“So, he accepted the book and assured him that he will
make sure Ashanti develops and all projects that the NPP couldn’t complete, he
will do so and begin new ones.”
