Ghana's 40th National Farmers' Day celebration is slated for Friday, November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region. President Akufo-Addo has confirmed his attendance at this momentous event. Notably, regional-level celebrations will not take place this year, but each region can nominate winners for 10 distinct regional award categories.

This annual celebration honors farmers and fishers for their tireless contributions to Ghana's food security and economic development. Agriculture remains the backbone of Ghana's economy, providing substantial foreign exchange earnings through exports, particularly cocoa.

“These awardees are required to travel to Accra on Friday, 8th November 2024, where they will be honoured at the Awards Night Ceremony, taking place at 4:00 p.m. at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge.

“At this ceremony, Regional Ministers will confer awards on the honourees from their respective regions,” part of the statement read.

“Your presence and support will play a vital role in celebrating and recognising the invaluable contributions of our farmers to national development,” the Ministry added.

Additionally, the statement said that all Regional Ministers and their Regional Directors of Agriculture are requested to attend the Awards Night Ceremony, noting that all costs for participation will similarly be borne by their respective Regional Coordinating Councils.

Historically, National Farmers' Day celebrations have recognized outstanding farmers nationwide. For instance, in 2023, the 39th edition was held in the Western Region, focusing on "Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience". Previous events have also acknowledged farmers' hard work, dedication and resilience amidst challenges like climate change, limited market access and financial constraints.
