Akua Akua Donkor, the trailblazing founder and leader
of Ghana's Freedom Party, passed away on October 28, 2024, at Accra's Ridge
Hospital, aged 72.
Her unwavering dedication to Ghanaian politics
inspired countless individuals. As a passionate advocate for farmers' and
women's rights, Akua Donkor's bold nature captured national attention,
profoundly impacting grassroots communities.
Akua Donkor's remarkable political resilience was
evident in her multiple presidential bids, despite financial hurdles. She was a
strong contender in the 2024 elections, securing the third spot on the ballot.
Her political journey began as Assemblywoman for
Herman in the Ashanti region, followed by an independent presidential bid in
2012. Although disqualified by the Electoral Commission, she redirected her
support to Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party.
The 2016 election brought further challenges when her
party's Eastern Region headquarters was destroyed by fire, resulting in
disqualification. Undeterred, Akua Donkor continued championing marginalized
communities.
Her 2024 campaign promised transformative policies:
free vehicles for journalists, duty-free port services, complimentary education
and enhanced farmers' compensation.
