About University of Health & Allied Sciences (UHAS)
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) as stated in
its enabling legislation, Act 828 in December 2011, was founded with the
goal of becoming a leading research university with a strong focus on clinical
practise and public service. Ho is home to the institution's main campus and
administrative offices. Hohoe is also home to a second campus. A total of 154
students enrolled when classes first started in September 2012.
UHAS is the first publicly funded university in Ghana's Volta
Region and, to date, the only state institution in Ghana focused only on the education
of medical professionals. School of Allied Health Sciences; School of Basic and
Biomedical Sciences; School of Dentistry; School of Medicine; School of Nursing
and Midwifery; School of Pharmacy; Fred N. Binka School of Public Health; and
School of Sports and Exercise Medicine. Together, these eight schools offer 21
different undergraduate majors and a number of graduate degrees. Two other
institutes are available via UHAS; they are the Institute of Health Research
and the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine. There is currently
no Institute of Medical Education in place.
UHAS encourages the observance of traditional values that support
continuous growth and development throughout one's life. Academic achievement,
in our opinion, thrives in an environment where standards are made crystal
clear. Our objective is to instill in our students a lifelong curiosity and
enthusiasm for learning. As the world around them evolves, we educate our
students to adapt and thrive as global citizens. We act and do business as a
leading medical institution committed to discovery and service.
The University's method is more conventional than some
others, yet it nevertheless provides students with a high-quality education
that prepares them for the future. We encourage excellent academic achievement
among a supportive student body by providing a welcoming environment that
values variety and individuality. We want our kids to grow not just
intellectually but also socially, to know and value themselves and to treat others
with kindness and respect.
