Johannesburg, South Africa. The Technikon Witwatersrand (TWR), the Soweto and
East Rand campuses of Vista University, the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU),
and the University of Johannesburg were combined to become the University of
Johannesburg on January 1, 2005.
The Daveyton and Soweto campuses of the erstwhile Vista University

served as vice-chancellor and head of UJ from 2005 until 2017.
Out of the 26 public universities that make up the country's
higher education system, the recently established university is one of the
biggest comprehensive contact universities in South Africa. And nearly 3000 of
the nearly 50 000 students enrolled at UJ come from abroad, representing 80 different
countries.
