The Minister
of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mustapha Ussif has hailed the exploits of the Ghanaian athletes who won medals at the recently ended commonwealth games
in Birmingham. He made this known on his Facebook wall, monitored by GHANA News ONLINE.
Deborah Acquah
won a bronze medal for Ghana in the women’s long jump category. Abraham Mensah,
won a silver medal for the country in boxing (bantamweight division) whilst Joseph
Commey also won silver in the featherweight division of boxing.
“Congratulations
to the following compatriots on winning laurels for the nation at the
Commonwealth Games today: Deborah Acquah; bronze medal in the Women's Long
Jump. Abraham Mensah; silver medal in the Bantamweight division. Joseph Commey;
silver medal in the Featherweight division.
“This adds
up to the earlier bronze won by Joseph Paul Amoah and Wahid Omar in the Men’s
200m race and Light Welterweight division respectfully.”
He further
wished Joseph Commey speedy recovery after sustaining an injury during the competition.
He finally, reiterated government’s commitment to investing in the sports
sector of Ghana.
“I'd also
like to take this opportunity to wish Commey a speedy recovery. Government
remains committed to increasing investment in our sports ecosystem.”
