The Managing Editor of the
Insight Newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said that, he has no bitterness towards
the PNDC and the late former President Rawlings. He spoke to Kafui Dey and Thelma Tackie
on the Brum Show monitored by GHANA News ONLINE.
According to him, he joined
the political campaign in 2001, to get former President Kufuor elected and yet
disagreed with him on many occasions on government policies.
“I have no bitterness! One
thing I have never had in my life, is bitterness. It is a waste of energy,
bitterness is a waste of energy. Look, I joined the campaign to get President
Kufuor elected; in 2000, I joined that campaign.
“And I remember, I was the
last person to address the rally; the final rally in Tamale police park. That
day I didn’t want to speak but they put a lot of pressure on me; Gabby Nketia,
President Kufuor himself, so I decided to. So I got there very late; I got there
when President Kufuor had finished speaking.
“Now the tradition
normally, is that, it is the Presidential candidate who speaks last but I spoke
last because President Kufuor insisted, I speak last. And I remember saying
that, ‘I am here to urge you to vote for President Kufuor, but if he comes to
power and does what we are fighting against, we will fight him and wrestle him.’
This was the last campaign rally, okay. So, 2001, President Kufuor is sworn in
as President, many things happened and so on.
“But then, I began to
disagree with him on some of the policy issues and I had no difficulty,
absolutely no difficulty, working with elements of the National Democratic
Congress in organizing protests and so on.”
Mr. Pratt also added that,
he had no problems working with the NDC as he had organized many protest with
the late former president Rawlings. He again mentioned that, it is a complete
waste of time and energy to be bitter and that everyone is playing their part
in society and while some parts bring consequences, he advised that, all should
play their part and move on!
“I organized many protests
with former President Jerry Rawlings, okay. There is no bitterness! It is not
about being bitter, bitter for what! It is a waste of energy; who are you to be
bitter? You understand? You must think of yourself in a certain way, to be
bitter.
“We are all playing our
part and some parts come with different consequences and so on. And so, we play
the part and society moves on.”
