According to the
Ghana Health Service (GHS), a 9-month-old baby is among the people in Ghana who
have the viral illness, monkey pox.
So far, 72 cases
of monkeypox have been reported across the nation. As at Tuesday, June 14,
2022, there has been 18 positive tests.
The GHS
Director-General, Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, said that no fatalities had been
reported in the nation as of yet during a media appearance on Wednesday, June
22, 2022.
He said,
"Monkeypox as was reported globally and what we found in Ghana, is a total
of 72 cases so far. Among these, 18 have tested positive. And the last case was
on June 14, when the last lab report came out.
"So that is
where we are as far as Monkeypox is concerned. The age range of people struck
by the disease, is between nine months and 41 years, mainly found in Greater
Accra, Ashanti, Bono, and Eastern Regions. The case fatality rate is zero.”
