The former director of Communications for the NPP,
Nana Akomea has said he is embarrassed about the many failed promises by the
NPP government. He said this on the Good
Morning Ghana (GMG) show sighted by GHANA News ONLINE.
Dr. Randy Abbey, the host of the show quizzed him
to explain the many failed promises by his government despite the portrayal of
the previous government as incompetent and incapable of solving the nations problems.
Nana Akomea explained that, persons put in-charge
of the various sectors of the economy are the ones to answer that question.
"It's a very simple explanation; you have to
ask those in-charge because the things that, we said we will do; there are
sectors and people in-charge. There are people in-charge of Agriculture and
there are people in-charge of Trade and Industry.
"There have been people in-charge of Food
& Agric in the previous government and I have always said they were not
doing well, anytime there were increases in food prices. There were people
in-charge of finance; ermm anytime the cedi fell, we said they were not doing
well. There are still people in-charge of those sectors.
"You know, somebody sent me something last
week and I laughed. Nana Akomea says the government was going to pay rent and
now we can't find him; we will do aluta against him, we can't pay our rent. I
didn't communicate those ideas on my behalf. This is what the party says they
will do! So properly, if you want to know what happened to the rent promise,
you have to go to the minister in-charge of housing."
When asked by Randy, whether those things
embarrassed him, Nana Akomea admitted that, they embarrass him.
"Absolutely, they embarrass me, I mean when I
come and sit here and you play the pronouncements that are being made; I am
embarrassed. These are not propaganda but things we said, we were going to do.
The only thing is that, you can just replace the face with another face let's
say, 2007, 2008. If you look at the pronouncements made in 2007, 2008, you will
see that it's the same.
"Why we are not able to do that; change the
structure, even though we talk about it in opposition and we say we will do it?
And when we come, we put people in-charge. Errrm, I have never been in-charge
of any of those sectors, so I can't answer."
