The Central Bank of Ghana has upgraded the GH¢1 coin with enhanced security features according to a released statement today, 6 December, 2022, monitored by GhanaNews.hrforum.uk.

The new GH¢1 coin is scheduled to be in circulation from Monday, 12 December, 2022. It is also noteworthy to know that, the GH¢ 1 coin isn’t different from the old as far as the shape, form and images are concerned.

Bank of Ghana has upgraded the GH¢1 coin with enhanced security features.

The Bank will issue the upgraded GH¢1 coin into circulation from Monday, 12 December 2022.

The coin is similar to the existing GH¢1 coin in shape, form and images; the Coat of Arms in front and the Scale of Justice at the back.

The new GH¢1 coin is bi-metallic with an outer gold and inner silver. It has a legible rough edge, with a latent image, appearing in a rectangular form and below the scale of justice at the back.

The statement finally adds that, the new GH¢1 coin will be in co-circulation with the old until the old is fully withdrawn from the system. The public is also urged to accept and use the coin.

The upgraded GH¢1 coin is bi-metallic with an outer gold and inner silver. The coin has a pronounced rough edge and incorporates a latent image, which appears in a rectangular form below the Scale of Justice at the back.

The latent image changes from a radiating star to a One Ghana cedi symbol sandwiched between two stars when tilted.

The existing and the upgraded GH¢ 1 coin will co-circulate until the existing coin is gradually withdrawn. The Bank encourages the public to accept the coins and use them,” the statement concluded.
